Recent Musings - Be Your Own Kind of Beautiful
Your Own Kind of Beautiful
The world will say you can’t dance
You can’t write, you can’t sing,
You can’t learn, you can’t teach.
How should you respond to that kind of
negativity?
Kick off your shoes, turn up the music and
DANCE
Don’t’ be afraid to take a stance
If the world gets its way
We’ll all be walking around in a trance
Afraid to give our dreams a chance
Barely giving life a glance
Rhythmless victims of circumstance
The world will say your voice doesn’t
count
You can’t march, you can’t yell
You can’t protest, you can’t lead
How should you respond to that kind of oppression?
Grab a megaphone and shout, “YOU ARE
PSYCHOTIC”
Don’t be afraid you’ll sound too neurotic
Our words, when honored, make hearts
symbiotic
To let hatred win would be catastrophic
Hate speak unchallenged is dangerously hypnotic
Rendering us speechless in a world chaotic
The world will say you’re not a looker
You’re not pretty, not handsome
You’re the wrong size, the wrong shape
How should you respond to that kind of labeling?
Dance, write, sing, learn, teach,
March, yell, protest, lead
If the world gets its way
We’ll all be walking around in a trance
Afraid to give our dreams a chance
Barely giving life a glance
Rhythmless victims of circumstance
The way to remain free
From this world’s twisted tormentors
Is to always do you
And strive to be
Your own kind of beautiful!
